Homecoming Activities Planned at UF

Findlay, Ohio, Sept. 17, 2004 – “Time Marches On” is the theme for The University of Findlay’s Homecoming Sept. 24-26.

Highlights of the weekend include a performance by country-rock band Emerson Drive on Friday at 9 p.m. in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex. Tickets, which are $20, are available by calling the Office of Student Activities at 419-434-4746 or at the door.

The Alumni Association Annual Meeting will be held Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion. Betty Helwig Biswas ’51, Barbara A. Meyers Binkley ’64 and Dennis Zahler ’70 will be honored as Distinguished Alumni. Robert Verb ’96 will receive the Old Main Award, which recognizes the distinguished accomplishments of alumni age 35 or younger. The Gold Medallion Award was presented in memory of the late Stephen Loy ’74. The Arch Award, honoring service by a staff member of the university, will be presented to Judith Butler.

Dedication of new campus clocks is set for 11 a.m. Saturday on the Frank J. Egner Center for the Performing Arts lawn. This project represents a gift from the classes of 1954 and 2004 to UF.

From 1 to 4 p.m. at the James L. Child Jr. Equestrian Complex, the Family Equestrian Festival will feature pony rides, hay rides and riding demonstrations. This event is free and open to the public.

The University’s Athletic Hall of Fame will induct six individuals on Saturday, beginning at 11:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union. This year’s inductees are Kris Alge ’85, Greg Denecker‘94, Maria Newcomer Gleason ’90, Tony King ’65, Eileen Kleinfelter ’79 and Demya Wimberly ‘94.

The Oiler football team will take on Northwood University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with halftime activities including a performance by the Oiler Brass marching band and announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen.

A celebration honoring former UF football coach Dick Strahm’s induction into the College Football Hall of Fame will take place at the Koehler Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Concert and Lecture Series season opens Sunday at 4 p.m., when members of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Chelsea Tipton II, will present “Overture to the Barber of Seville” by Rossini, “Rumanian Folk Dances” by Bartók, “Suite No. 2” by Bach and “Symphony No. 7” by Beethoven. The performance, which will take place in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary’s TLB Foundation Convocation Center, is open to the public and is priced at $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $10 for students.
