UF Alumni Association Names New President

Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 19, 2004 – Julie McIntosh, Ed.D., assistant professor of education at The University of Findlay, has been named president of the University’s Alumni Association Board of Governors.

McIntosh replaces Cam Taylor, who served as association president since 1997. Taylor will remain on the board as past president. She joined the board in 1989, serving as secretary from 1993-94 and as vice president from 1995-97. McIntosh, who previously served as vice president, has been a member of the board of governors since 1997.

McIntosh received a bachelor of arts degree from Findlay in 1990 and master of education and doctor of education degrees from Bowling Green State University. She holds a permanent teaching certificate and superintendent licensure. McIntosh is a Praxis III Assessor for the Ohio Department of Education.

She worked for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency as an environmental engineer after graduating from UF and went on to teach science at Bowling Green High School and Findlay High School. After she received her doctorate, McIntosh taught at BGSU before coming back to Findlay to teach in UF’s College of Education. McIntosh is currently an assistant professor of education, and she is the Adolescent Young Adult and Multi-Age Program director.

She has received the Findlay High School Academic Boosters Club Make a Difference Award and the Hancock Soil and Water Conservation District Conservation Teacher of the Year award. She was the UF Old Main Award recipient in 2001 for outstanding achievement.

McIntosh has coached dance teams for Bowling Green High School, BGSU and Findlay High School.

McIntosh is a member of many professional organizations, including the Association for the Education of Teachers of Science, the National Association for Research in Science Education, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Science Teacher Association and Phi Delta Kappa.

She is actively involved with the March of Dimes and St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.

McIntosh lives in Findlay with her husband Bill and daughter Britney.

Cam Taylor graduated from Findlay College in 1967. She was an elementary teacher for 30 years with the majority of that time spent at Findlay City Schools.

She was a finalist for the Findlay Rotary Club’s Golden Apple Award in 1993, and she received the Ashland Oil Company Golden Apple Achiever Award in 1994.

She remains active in education as a Praxis III Assessor for the Ohio Department of Education and as a supervisor for sophomore and junior block programs and student teaching internships at UF.

She is an active member of the Mazza Museum programs, Hancock County Historical Museum, Delta Zeta National Sorority and Order of Eastern Star.

Taylor co-authored Project Schoolbell, a nationally recognized program for hands-on learning for children in an 1800s one-room school. For that effort, she received the Award of Achievement from the Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums in 1990. She also co-created Hancock County Happenings, a program designed to allow third graders to experience what life was like from 1930-40.

As an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taylor and her husband Gary are co-founders of Tales for Tanzania, a project designed to place children’s books in the hands of the children of Tanzania. More than 1,000 books have been shipped to that country, thanks to the project.

Taylor lives in Findlay with her husband Gary. They have two children and five grandchildren.
