Friday, October 22, 2004
Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 22, 2004 – Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader is scheduled to speak at The University of Findlay on Monday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Winebrenner Theological Seminary. The event is free and open to faculty, staff, students and community members.
Nader is on the ballot in 34 states this year as an independent candidate for president and is challenging his exclusion from the official ballot in Ohio for the national election on Nov. 2. He was a Green party presidential candidate in 1996 and again in 2000.
A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Nader first achieved national notoriety in 1965 with his book Unsafe at Any Speed, taking Detroit automakers to task for ignoring safety concerns in vehicle design. In 1969 Nader set up the Center for the Study of Responsive Law, addressing both corporate misdeeds and government failures to enforce business regulations. He played a key role in the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. He founded Public Citizen and the Public Interest Research Group, non-profit advocacy groups.
