UF Names New Board Members

Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 25, 2004 – Karl Heminger and Jennifer Capra Smith were sworn in as new trustees during The University of Findlay Board of Trustees meeting on Oct. 14-15.

Karl Heminger is president of Findlay Publishing Co., where he has worked in several positions since 1987.

Previously he served as plant engineer and production manager for Bevco Precision Manufacturing Co. from 1986-87 in Evanston, Ill.

Heminger retired in 2000 after 22 years of service from the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He was a squadron navigator, instructor navigator and flight examiner navigator and an Air Force Academy Liaison Officer. He retired with the rank of major.

Heminger holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky. In 1985 he earned a master’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Northwestern University.

Heminger serves on the executive boards of the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, St. Andrews United Methodist Church, the Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation and the Black Swamp Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of the Findlay Rotary Club.

Jennifer Capra Smith, D.V.M., is the site/department head of Laboratory Animal Resources at Amgen Inc., in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She has worked for Amgen since 1998, and she has served in her current position since 2002.

She has also worked for the Long Lake Veterinary Clinic in Traverse City, Mich., and Shore Veterinarians in Williamstown, N.J.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Aquinas College. In 1991 she earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-veterinary medicine from UF. She received a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University in 1995.

Smith is a member of the Association of Primate Veterinarians, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. She serves on the board of trustees for the Southern California branch of the AALAS.
