Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 29, 2004 – The University of Findlay’s theatre program will present Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “Aria da Capo” Nov. 10-13 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre.
An aria da capo in music is a piece divided into three parts. The first part is set in one theme, the second is set in an entirely different theme and the third is a repeat of the first part. Such is the case with Millay’s one-act play, “Aria da Capo.” The characters Columbine and Pierrot, representing superficiality and self-absorption, appear in the first and third parts. The second part features Corydon and Thyrsis, whose friendly game turns to tragedy.
This play, written in 1919, offers an excellent example of comedic satire. Millay satirizes war, the treatment of women, greed, “the fine life” and man’s inhumanity to man.
Adjunct Theatre Professor Vicki McClurkin is the play’s director. Cast members include Sean Kecskes as Pierrot, Jaclyn Hilborn as Columbine, Marie Louden-Hanes as Cothurnus, Greg Wozniak as Thyrsis and Chelsea Riggs as Corydon.
Tickets for the show are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $3 for students. UF
faculty, staff and students are admitted free. For more information, call the Box Office at 419-434-5335.
