Findlay, Ohio, Nov. 17, 2004 – Cheryl L. Angelelli, who won two bronze medals for swimming in the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Greece, will speak at The University of Findlay on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Edward and Joyce Brewer Center for Health Sciences.
Angelelli’s lecture is free and open to the public.
She will discuss her experiences at the Paralympics, an international athletic competition for people with physical disabilities that immediately follows the Olympics in the same venue.
Angelelli sustained a spinal-cord injury while diving at age 14, which left her a quadriplegic. Prior to her accident, Angelelli had been a competitive swimmer. She returned to the sport 15 years later as a member of the U.S. National Disabled Swim Team. In 2000 and 2004 she was a member of the U.S. Paralympic swim teams.
A graduate of Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Mich., Angelelli holds a bachelor’s degree in communication. Her interest in television journalism led her to freelance as a writer and reporter prior to her current employment as director of marketing and public relations for the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.
Angelelli is also a freelance journalist, model and product spokesperson for Invacare wheelchairs. She has appeared in dozens of television commercials, industrial films and print advertisements for companies including Disney, Hartford, the Chrysler Corp. and General Motors.
