Findlay, Ohio, Nov. 17, 2004 – Louis Stulman, Ph.D., professor of religious studies at The University of Findlay, has published his fifth book, Inspired Speech: Prophecy in the Ancient East. Essays in Honour of Herbert B. Huffmon.
Stulman served as editor for the book, along with John Kaltner, Ph.D., professor of religious studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. Stulman’s book is a work honoring Huffmon, professor of ancient Near Eastern studies at Drew University. Huffmon, a well-known authority on the study of prophecy in biblical Israel and the ancient Near East, was Stulman’s teacher and mentor.
“Over the course of 25 years, Professor Huffmon has been not only an esteemed teacher and wonderful mentor but also a treasured friend and colleague,” Stulman said. “Working on ‘Inspired Speech’ with Dr. John Kaltner has been a real labor of love and one which I consider a highlight of our career.”
The book includes a tribute to Huffmon and 30 essays that explore themes related to the study of religion and prophecy in the ancient Near East.
Contributors leading biblical scholars from around the world. Among the
contributors are some of Huffmon’s teachers and students from his many years of teaching.
Stulman’s essay, Jeremiah as a Polyphonic Response to Suffering, explores three theological responses to the collapse of ancient Israel in the sixth century B.C.

Stulman is the author of four other books, all discussing Jeremiah’s prophecies.
