Findlay, Ohio, Nov. 22, 2004 – For many of The University of Findlay’s 430 international students, going home over University holidays isn’t an option, so the University’s Office of International Admissions and Services is offering its second annual Thanksgiving luncheon Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 11:30 a.m. in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary TLB Foundation Convocation Center.
This luncheon may also be international students’ introduction to the uniquely American Thanksgiving holiday.
Although the Office of International Admissions and Services is hosting the meal, all UF students who aren’t going home for the holiday are also invited. All faculty and staff are also invited to attend.
The Office of International Admissions and Services will provide turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy and the University’s Office of the President will provide beverages, while the faculty and staff will bring favorite Thanksgiving dishes to share.
The University’s student population of nearly 4,600 full-time and part-time students includes more than 430 international students from more than 35 countries. UF is ranked fourth-highest in the United States for institutions of comparable size and type for the number of international students enrolled.
UF also offers a special program designed for international students who wish to learn the English language and about U.S. culture. This unique program, leading to a bachelor’s degree in English as an international language, allows students to earn academic credit while improving English language proficiency.
The Intensive English Language Program, which assists international students, was established at UF in 1975. The program helps students to succeed in gaining a bachelor’s degree in English as an international language, serves as a study abroad experience and assists students in preparing for graduate study in the United States.
