Nov. 5, 2004, Findlay, Ohio – More than 50 students and faculty from The University of Findlay will present some of their best research projects and academic endeavors on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Ralph and Gladys Koehler Complex.
Their presentations are part of the University’s fourth annual Academic Excellence Day that showcases academic excellence, scholarship and research that is done by students and faculty throughout the school year.
Some of the student presentations include:
Tardigrades: Water Bears – 10 to 10:45 a.m. presented by Ashley Erick, senior pre-vet/biology life sciences major, and Megan Silver, senior pre-vet/biology life sciences major, in Booth C. The students will present the findings of their research on these relatively unknown microscopic aquative organisms’ habitats in Findlay.
Nocturnal Behavior Caught on Camera – 10:50 to 11:35 a.m. presented by Shane Myers, senior biology major, in Booth G. The presentation will reflect Myers research findings on the mating and egg laying behavior of a nocturnal damselfly, the Vesper Bluet. Myers is possibly the first to be able to record footage of the damselfly’s behavior.
Seals of the North Sea – 10:50 to 11:35 a.m. presented by Emily Ickes, senior biology life sciences major, in Booth L. During her presentation, Ickes will discuss her experiences rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing harbour and grey seals in the North Sea in Great Britain.
The event will kick off with a keynote address from Walter Mosley, the author of more than 19 books including Devil in a Blue Dress, Black Betty, and his most recent work, Little Scarlet, at 9 a.m. in the Koehler Complex.
The program will wrap up with a theatre performance from UF’s theatre program that will highlight a scene from the recent performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 11:30 a.m. in the Koehler Complex.
