Findlay, Ohio, Dec. 28, 2004 – The University of Findlay recently received a gift of 30 acres of wooded land to be used as a nature preserve.
Findlay business Hancor Inc. donated the land, which is southeast of Findlay. The property includes a large woodlot, south of Hancor’s main office and adjacent to the University’s James L. Child Jr. Equestrian Complex.
“We are pleased to donate this property to The University of Findlay for educational purposes and to ensure that this natural habitat, which Hancor has carefully preserved, is retained in its natural state in the future” Hancor President Steven A. Anderson said.
“The University of Findlay is grateful for Hancor’s generous gift,” said University President DeBow Freed. “University of Findlay students and faculty, students in area public schools, and members of surrounding committees will benefit from having this unique natural area available to observe and study for years to come.”
The donated land consists mainly of mature forest along the floodplain of Eagle Creek. It is an ideal setting to examine stream and floodplain habitats. The land is being donated to preserve this natural resource at a prime location near the city limits. The education center will serve as a place for student and community groups to observe and monitor water quality and stream habitats as well as plant and animal life in an undisturbed setting. The center probably will add footpaths for self-guided walking tours and bridle paths for riding.
