UF Celebrates Black History Month

Findlay, Ohio, Feb. 2, 2005 – The University of Findlay will celebrate Black History Month with numerous campus events taking place throughout February. “The University of Findlay and the Office of Intercultural Student Services are excited about the programs and activities being offered during Black History Month,” Desmond Buford, executive director of Intercultural Student Services, said. “From a visit by the Ohio secretary of state to our eighth annual Black Tie Affair, we are offering a variety of programs that will be an insightful and educational experience for all.”

Wednesday, Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m., African-American Film Fest - The University community is invited to watch “Finding Forrester” in the Cave in the Alumni Memorial Union.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Violet Band Campaign - The Office of Intercultural Student Services will distribute free violet silicone wristbands engraved with “one race, one people, one world” in the AMU.

Saturday, Feb. 12, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., Eighth Annual Black Tie Affair - Students, faculty and staff are invited to this year’s formal event, with the theme “The Royal Ball,” in the AMU Multi-Purpose Room.

Monday, Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m., African-American Film Fest - The University community is invited to watch “Rosewood” in the Cave in the AMU.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, Ohio Secretary of State Blackwell’s Speech - Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio secretary of state, will discuss public service with the public in a location and time to be announced at a later date.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 7:30 p.m. African-American Film Fest - The University community is invited to watch “Remember the Titans” in the AMU Multi-Purpose Room.

Friday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m., 7 p.m., African-American Film Fest - The University community is invited to watch “Ray” in the Endly Room in the AMU.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Violet Band Campaign - The Office of Intercultural Student Services will distribute free violet silicone wristbands engraved with “one race, one people, one world” in the AMU.

Thursday, Feb. 24, 5-7:30 p.m., Soul Food Dinner - Henderson Dining Hall will offer a dinner of southern favorites, including fried chicken, fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, candied yams and Mississippi mud pie. Diners may opt to compete for cash prizes by filling out a crossword puzzle with a black history theme.
