UF Faculty to Host Weekly Book Discussion
Monday, February 07, 2005

Feb. 4, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Members of The University of Findlay faculty will host a weekly Friday book discussion through out the spring. According to Dr. Mark Polelle, director of the University’s history, political science and law and liberal arts program, the books that are chosen are selected to reflect issues and topics that are impacting society. “Through book discussion we hope to give participants the opportunity to debate, reflect upon and increase their insight into topics that are on the minds of many people,” Polelle explained. “The roundtable also allows faculty to share their own works of scholarship with the academic and general community.”

The schedule for the faculty roundtable book discussions is:

Friday, Feb. 11 - Jim Jaffe, assistant professor of environmental safety and health management, will lead a discussion on the book “The Pentagon's New Map” by Thomas P. M. Barnett.

Friday, Feb. 18 - The book, “Not by Genes Alone: How Culture Transformed Human Evolution,” written by Peter J. Richerson and Robert Boy will be discussed.

Friday, Feb. 25 – The discussion will be a focus on works by Dr. Gary Johnson’s, UF assistant professor of English, on Franz Kafka.

Friday, March 4 – The book, “I Am Charlotte Simmons,” by Tom Wolfe will be discussed.

All meetings will take place at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union’s Slough Conference Room.
