UF Projects Balanced Budget, Reduced Debt and Additional Programs
Monday, February 07, 2005

Findlay, Ohio, Feb. 4, 2005 – The University of Findlay expects to balance its budget and reduce indebtedness for the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2005, and add academic programs for the future.

A major in forensic science will be offered starting next fall. Preparations for additional majors in music education and chemistry are in progress. Plans to offer doctor of physical therapy and doctor of pharmacy degrees are before state and national approval and accrediting agencies.

Academic and physical plant projects in progress or planned for the summer and next year amount to about $2 million, all of which will be paid from the operating budget or from donations.

The University Board of Trustees noted a balanced budget with a good surplus for the first half of the current fiscal year 2004-05 and a projected surplus for the end of the fiscal year. The budget projected for next year is balanced and reflects plans to further strengthen academic and student programs and further reduce indebtedness.

Gifts and grants for the first half of the fiscal year 2004-05 were $2.9 million, ahead of recent years. December giving of over $1 million was similarly ahead of recent years.

Ms. Pamela Beall and Mr. Gary Harpst, both of Findlay, were elected as new trustees.

The above information and actions were part of a meeting of the University Board of Trustees on Feb. 3 and 4. Thirty-three regular trustees and three special trustees attended the two-day meeting.

“We had a good meeting,” Board Chairman C. Richard Beckett said. “Trustees are pleased with the progress and direction of the University. We are improving finances and systematically strengthening the academic, teaching and student programs of the University.”
