New Student Groups on Campus

Findlay, Ohio, March 31, 2005 – Several new student groups have been started or re-activated at The University of Findlay throughout the 2004-04 school year.

These groups are student-run and focus on improving the campus community or the student body through their area of specialization. The new student groups are as follows:

The Findlay Horseman’s Association is a local affiliate of the American Collegiate Horseman’s Association. They work to unite horsemen locally and across the country, as well as increase knowledge in the field. Contact Courtney Bucknam, president, at bucknamc@findlay.edu.

The Fine Arts Society offers students the opportunity to engage in the arts. During meetings speakers give presentations on various topics within the arts. The group is also planning to tour an art museum this semester. Meetings are bi-monthly on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. Contact Rachel Walter, president, at walterr@findlay.edu.

The International Student Bible Study and Fellowship Group provides a relaxed environment for international students to adjust to the U.S. culture, fellowship and learn more about new experiences and God. Contact In Ho Chong, president, at chongi@findlay.edu.

The Newman Club is designed for Catholic students (but all Christians are welcome). The club is responsible for parts of the Mass on the third Sunday of each month at 6 p.m. in the AMU. The Newman Club is also hoping to network with other Christian groups for fellowship and prayer. Contact Ryan Gravett, president, at gravettr@findlay.edu.

The Pre-Med Club serves health science majors with various resources. The club offers information about graduate school, testing information, requirements for their intended field of study and speakers. The club is open to anyone interested in medicine-related fields. Meetings are held on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Contact Matthew Fryman, president, at frymanm@findlay.edu.

The UF College Democrats represent the Democratic party both on campus and in the community. The club is working to develop relationships with other groups on campus. Contact John Phoenix, president, at phoenixj@findlay.edu.

The UF Martial Arts Club studies three forms of martial arts: Kemp Karate, Ju-Jitsu and Modern Arnis. The instructors are Black Belts with 10 to 15 years of experience. Contact Jared Kirk, president, at kirkj@findlay.edu.

The UF Recycling Club plans to provide recycling options to the campus community by collaborating with Campus Compact and Litter Landing. They also hope to offer recycling education workshops to the community. Contact Katie Welbaum, president, at welbaumk@findlay.edu.
