Findlay, Ohio, April 11, 2005 – Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery in Southern India will perform traditional monastic dances at The University of Findlay on Wednesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union.
The performance is open to the public; freewill donations are encouraged.
Wednesday’s event includes eight ritualistic dances and live music performed by costumed monks. The evening will conclude with a debate about Buddhism.
The monks are touring the United States to raise money for their monastery. Donations will fund textbooks, soil improvement, teachers’ salaries and a new courtyard classroom.
While they are visiting the Findlay area, the monks will visit the Allen Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 14. UF’s Correctional Program will sponsor the monks’ visit, in which they will perform ritual dances and lead a discussion about their beliefs and lifestyle.
