June 21, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Concerned students and staff at The University of Findlay are taking action this weekend as they ride in the Multiple Sclerosis Bike-to-the-Bay program for the second year in a row. The event will be June 25-26, beginning from the Lucas County Fairgrounds.
The Orange and Black Attack team was formed by Sharinda Welton, UF’s director of student activities and commuter student services.
According to Welton, 20 UF students, faculty and staff members are participating in this year’s event, all which have loved ones with multiple sclerosis (MS).
The UF students are members of the National MS Society’s Northwest chapter. Each team member has accepted Welton’s challenge to raise $200 dollars. Some riders are exceeding $500 in sponsorships.
“Each student has paid the entry fee on their own. All the money goes directly to the National MS Society’s Northwest chapter,” Welton said.
This year’s team has the challenge of trying to improve on the 2004 Orange and Black Attack team, which was voted Rookie Fundraiser Team of the Year.
“MS affects a lot of people throughout the state. Bike-to-the-Bay is really tied to the community. The students wanted to make a difference. It shows through their training and commitment,” said Welton. “We ride in memory and honor of community members struggling with this disease.”
It is not too late to ride with the Orange and Black Attack team. For questions, comments or to donate money, contact Welton at 419-434-4647.
