UF’s SummerStock Theatre Begins July 6

June 22, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay’s 2005 SummerStock theatre season includes two modern revivals and a new premiere. The productions run from July 6 to Aug. 7.

The season includes:

Moon River – July 6-9 at 8 p.m., July 9 at 2 p.m., and July 10 at 6 p.m.;

Noises Off – July 20-23 at 8 p.m., and July 24 at 6 p.m.; and

Big River – Aug. 3-6 at 8 p.m., Aug. 6 at 2 p.m., and Aug. 7 at 6 p.m.

All shows will be held in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre in the Egner Center for the Performing Arts.

Moon River, a Johnny Mercer musical cabaret, features selections from 50 of Johnny Mercer’s songs including “One for My Baby,” “Fools Rush In” and “Sweet Georgia Brown.” Johnny Mercer’s songs are popular on television, radio, and in films theatres and cabarets worldwide. Moon River is having its Midwest premiere at SummerStock.

Michael Frayn’s Noises Off is a hilarious comedy that is about the behind-the-scenes lives of a group of actors who are preparing for a national tour. The New York Post labeled Noises Off as the “funniest farce ever written”.

Big River, adapted from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, features music and lyrics by Roger Miller, and book by William Hauptman. This musical brings to life the favorite characters of Mark Twain’s classic. Big River tells the story of how Huckleberry Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River.

Scott Hayes serves as the artistic director of SummerStock. Katherine Smart will direct Moon River, Dan Bright will direct Noises Off and Jefferson Slinkard will direct Big River. Jerry Deall will serve as lighting designer and Michele Cook as scenic designer, both for all productions. Keri Parker is production stage manager for the season. Other stage managers are Nikki Marie Coe and Tacy Flaherty.

Tammy Griffin is serving as music director for the season, Hope Wells as choreographer, and Sam Spradlin as sound engineer and master electrician. Kathy Newell is the season costume designer, assisted by Krystina Lowe and Cait Newell. Troy Reineke is the accompanist for both musical productions. Shameka Nickens is the properties manager. The carpenters for the season are Bridget Marie Kerley and Yuko Nakayama.

Actors for the shows include Stephen Froelich, Brian Guffey, Jacob Riley, Patrick Quinlan, Julia Goden, Erin Lestikow, Joann Chase and Vicki McClurkin. Interns are Jared White, James Stephani and Christen Mathern.
