UF Preparing Overflow Student Housing
Friday, August 19, 2005

Aug. 19, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay is preparing temporary housing for about 40 students for the beginning of the new academic year. David Emsweller, vice president for student services, said the temporary housing will be needed for a few weeks before the students move into permanent housing.

The University has added over 300 housing spaces in the last three years, to achieve the current capacity of 1200 spaces in eight resident halls, 19 townhouses, 21 cottages, and eight special interest houses. The additional 40 temporary spaces will be in the UF Village, UF Haven, and five university-owned houses.

According to Brian Treece, director of Housing and Greek Life, having more students on campus benefits everyone. “It’s exciting because it shows that more people want to get their education from The University of Findlay, and live on campus.” Treece explains. “The more people we have on campus, the more activities we can have, and the more interaction and opportunities for enhancing students’ education experiences there are.”

Emsweller adds that living on campus also helps students have a more productive and successful college experience. “Studies show that students who live on campus tend to be more involved in and out of the classroom, and tend to be more likely to complete their degree,” Emsweller said.

Since 2000, UF has purchased the former Winebrenner Village and converted it to student housing, built spacious townhouses for upper classmen, and purchased several houses near campus.

New students begin moving into residence halls on August 26. About 700 new students are expected. Classes officially begin August 29.
