Arch Ceremony Set For Aug. 28
Monday, August 22, 2005
Aug. 22, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay’s annual Arch Ceremony, welcoming the Class of 2009, will take place Sunday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m. beginning in the Koehler Complex.
Following the welcome address by President Freed, as part of the UF tradition, students are ushered in through the Griffith Memorial Arch where they are greeted by faculty in caps and gown.
Since its founding in 1923 in memory of Caddie A. Griffith, students avoid walking through the arch again until their graduation in lieu of the superstition that students passing through the arch prior to their degree completion won't graduate.
After commencement, the graduating seniors march out through the arch, signifying their successful degree completion at UF and entry into the world beyond.
The Oiler Brass Marching Band will provide processional music during the ceremony. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held for new students, orientation leaders, faculty and staff in the Alumni Memorial Union. President and Mrs. Freed, Dr. Dan May, vice president of academic affairs and the college deans will host the reception.
