Anders to Perform at UF Faculty Voice Recital

Aug. 30, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Dr. Micheal F. Anders, tenor, UF professor of music and music program director, will present a Faculty Voice Recital on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary Auditorium. The recital is titled “…But Yesterday is Not Today: 20th Century American Songs for Recital and Musical Stage.”

Anders will be accompanied by pianist Kelly Lewis, UF staff accompanist.

Prior to the recital, there will be a lecture given by Marianna Hofer, UF associate professor English, discussing the poetry that will be sung during the recital. The lecture will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the auditorium.

The first half of the recital will feature 20th century American art songs by such classical composers as Samuel Barber, Ned Rorem, Charles Ives, Paul Creston, John LaMontaine and Gian Carlo Menotti. The second half will feature Broadway music from The Dessert Song, Babes in Arms, Brigadoon, The King and I, A Little Night Music, The Secret Garden, Children of Eden and other musicals.

A native of southeast Texas, Anders is in his 25th year at UF. He holds music degrees from Lamar University and The Ohio State University, and he has numerous performance credits on the recital, musical and operatic stages. Anders has appeared in leading roles with the Beaumont Civic Opera, Findlay Light Opera, Bowling Green State University Summer Musicals, Heidelberg Summer Musicals and other companies.
