Sept. 13, 2005, Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay’s Master of Science in Environmental, Safety and Health Management degree has received conditional accreditation from the Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). The EHAC is the national accreditation council that promotes and sets the standards for high quality education in the field of environmental health.
According to EHAC, the criteria for graduate program accreditation includes curriculum standards, faculty development and retention, enrollment criteria, program funding and management oversight of the program.
The University is one of only six programs in the country that has a graduate program accredited under these standards. It is the only program where students are able to obtain their degree by either taking traditional courses in the classroom or by taking online courses or through independent study.
According to Dr. William S. Carter, director of the Environmental Safety and Health Management Program, receiving accreditation will result in a significant benefit for the students in the program. “Only students from accredited programs are eligible to participate in the Commission Officer Student Extern Training Program of the U.S. Public Health Service,” Carter explained. “In addition, graduation from an accredited program is a requirement to enter the U.S. Public Health Service.”
The University of Findlay is a leader in environmental, safety and health professional education. UF offers both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field, serving the environmental, safety and occupational health needs of the manufacturing and commercial industries. The master’s degree combines science, engineering, policy and business concepts to provide graduates with the skills to make managerial decisions and to provide leadership in environmental, safety and occupational health careers. The program attracts professionals from all over the United States and from at least 12 other countries.
