Tuesday, September 20, 2005

Sept. 20, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Franco-American performer Josée Vachon will give a musical performance in French and Spanish Friday, Sept. 23 at noon in the Alumni Memorial Union Multipurpose Room at The University of Findlay.

Vachon accompanies herself on the guitar, the piano and with foot percussion. Her performances involve the audience with French-Canadian foot-tapping, spoons and sing-alongs.

Born in Quebec, she moved to Maine at a young age. Vachon was raised speaking French. She is also fluent in Spanish and has performed for bilingual audiences, sharing songs of her French heritage, as well as those learned from cultural experiences from her travels in Spain, Puerto Rico and Ecuador.

Vachon was awarded the 1999 National Culture Through the Arts Award by the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers. She has performed internationally on numerous occasions and hosted more than 500 tapings of the most widely-seen French-language television show in the U.S., “Bonjour!” that aired between 1987 and 1998. In 1993, she co-founded folk group Chanterelle, which released two albums. Vachon has released an additional 11 albums.
