New UF Art Gallery Showcases Faculty Work
Monday, October 17, 2005

Oct. 17, 2005, Findlay, Ohio - A unique art exhibition by Dr. Jon Gordon, associate professor of intercultural communication and director of the Communication Program, has opened at the University’s new gallery, The 1124 Gallery.

The exhibition features images Gordon created to reflect Brazilian culture.

In 2003, he participated in the College Consortium on International Education Faculty Development Tour of Brazil. There he had the opportunity to experience Brazilian culture. “The Brazilian people were open and welcoming,” commented Gordon. “Regardless of what they were doing, they encouraged us to participate. I was able to step into their lives and take photographs.”

Gordon captured his trip through photographs and later turned his photographs into a unique form of art.

His work is created through digital watercoloring, a process in which a photo is scanned into the computer and printed on slow-absorbing canvas. Once printed, the artist has approximately five minutes to hand manipulate the photos to his interpretation.

The 1124 Gallery is located at 1124 North Cory St., and is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
