Two Theatre Performances to Open at UF
Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Oct. 19, 2005, Findlay, Ohio –The University of Findlay theatre program will present “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller and “The Illusion” by Pierre Corneille, adapted by Tony Kishner. The plays will run in repertory Nov. 2-13. in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre.

“The Crucible” is a spell-binding examination of the Salem witch trials and charts a common man’s heroic struggle to find his soul in a time of mass hysteria. A quiet Puritan town is thrown into an uproar when groups of teenage girls seen dancing in the woods are consequently accused of witchcraft. In a situation where confusion and pretense meet religion and politics, gossip and fear may threaten the lives of innocent people. “The Crucible” is directed by Vicky McClurkin, UF adjunct theatre professor. Show dates are Nov. 2, 4, 10 and 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.

“The Illusion” is a fractured fairy-tale adaptation of Pierre Corneille’s 17th century classic by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Kushner. A father in search of his estranged son employs the services of a sorcerer who conjures for him three versions: each a different window into the fate of the prodigal. Part farce, part tempest, part theatrical game, “The Illusion” is filled with dazzling wordplay and fierce intelligence. Scott Hayes, director of UF’s theatre program and associate professor of theatre, is directing the “The Illusion.”

“The Illusion” will be performed Nov. 3, 9 and 11 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the shows are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $3 for students. UF faculty, staff and students are admitted free. For more information, call the UF Box Office at 419-434-5335.
