UF to Host Information Assurance Forum

Oct. 21, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay’s fourth annual Information Assurance (IA) Forum, “Patching the CyberPotholes along the Information Superhighway,” will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, TLB Convocation Center.

Presentations during the forum include:

“The State of Information Assurance at UF” and the University’s IA Program by Loren Wagner, UF visiting director of the Center for Information Assurance;

“Computer-Related Incidents: Causes and Prevention” by Dr. Virginia E. Rezmierski, of University of Michigan. Rezmierski has published numerous articles about information technology and ethics, privacy, security and team building. She also has led several national research projects examining the costs and causes associated with information technology related abuse incidents.

“Cyber Crimes and Digital Forensics – University Focus” by keynote speaker Brance Johnson, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) special agent supervisor – computer crimes unit. Johnson is a 20-year veteran of BCI, taking command of the Computer Crimes Unit in 2000. He is responsible for BCI/Computer Crimes response and investigations across the state of Ohio.

“Identity Theft: Protecting Your Good Name” by Jen Weaver, Sky Bank fraud investigator. With 12 years of experience in the banking industry, Weaver has spent three years in corporate investigations at Sky Bank. Her fraud investigations include counterfeit checks, forgeries, scans, check kiting, phishing schemes, money laundering, terrorist financing, bank robberies, internal theft and embezzlement and due diligence.

“Writing Effective Security Policies to Prevent Potholes on the Information Security Highway” by Anne Terwilliger, president of Accentuate Security. Terwilliger runs an information security consulting practice that specializes in the development of information security policies and the development of security awareness programs.
