Oct. 25, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Tony Melendez, the successful toe-picking guitar player, will perform at The University of Findlay on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Koehler Recreation Complex.
Melendez was born without arms and learned early in life that he could use his toes for things that most other people can’t. Raised in the Catholic Church, he uses his talent to perform Christian music around the world.
Among many other awards and special performances, Melendez has performed for Pope John Paul II nine times. He recorded his first album in 1989 and has performed in every state in the nation and in 27 foreign countries. He has made television appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Geraldo, CBS This Morning, The Late Show with Arsenio Hall, 700 Club, Robert Schuller and prime-time network specials for variety clubs and very special arts. He also performed at the 1989 World Series.
Some of his prestigious awards and honors include special commendations from President Reagan, the state of California, Variety Clubs of American, Very Special Arts, the City of Los Angeles, the first Inspirational Hero Award from the NFL Alumni Association at Super Bowl XXIII in Miami and countless other civic and charitable organizations.
