“Primal Leadership” Author to Speak at UF Academic Excellence Day
Monday, October 31, 2005

Oct. 31, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Dr. Annie McKee, author of “Primal Leadership,” will give the keynote address to kick off The University of Findlay’s fifth annual Academic Excellence Day Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. in the Ralph and Gladys Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.

The event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon, features more than 40 student and faculty projects that showcase academic excellence, scholarship and research done by students and faculty throughout the school year.

McKee is the co-chair of the Teleos Leadership Institute, where her work takes her from leadership and strategic planning initiatives at Fortune 100 firms to leadership and community development projects for developing countries around the world. She is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, teaches at the Wharton School’s Aresty Institute of Executive Education and is the former director of management development services for the HayGroup. Her responsibilities include designing innovative approaches to leadership development and works internationally as an adviser to senior executives.

Prior to co-founding Teleos, McKee was the managing director of the Center for Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania and taught in the Wharton School MBA program. Her research interests focus on leadership, executive development and organizational change. She has written articles and presented speeches on emotional intelligence, organizational change, the development of leadership capabilities, management education, managing an increasingly complex workforce and action research methodologies.

She recently, in collaboration with Daniel Golemand and Richard Boyatzis, completed a book, “Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence.” The book discusses how emotions are at the heart of effective leadership. The three authors also co-wrote two special leadership works for the “Harvard Business Review’s” Dec. 2001 and April 2002 issues, all of which address developing emotional intelligence in leaders.
