Oct. 4, 2005, Findlay, Ohio – Dr. Stanley Swartz, a 1970 graduate of The University of Findlay and education professor at California State University, will give a presentation on literacy at an Education Symposium Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union, Multipurpose Room.
Swartz also will be honored as a 2005 Distinguished Alumnus during the Homecoming festivities on Friday, Oct. 7.
Swartz graduated from then Findlay College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in education in 1972 and 1976, respectively, from Bowling Green State University.
He teaches graduate courses in special education, education administration and literacy for children with special needs at California State University, San Bernardino.
Swartz has published more than 100 articles and 15 books, and he was director of a residential treatment program for emotionally disturbed children and director of the University Clinic for Children with Disabilities. He also is committed to researching treatments for children with autism and the inclusion of children with disabilities in school and community.
Since 1995, Swartz has received the Distinguished Service Award from California State University, was named Distinguished Teacher Educator by the Association of Teacher Educators and, in 2005, was named the Distinguished Professor by the Universidad Autonoma de Baja, California (Mexico).
Attendees of the event can receive a certificate of attendance from the West Central Regional Professional Development Center. No pre-registration is required.
The Education Symposium is part of the University’s Homecoming festivities. A variety of activities will be offered to students, family, alumni and community members throughout the weekend.
