“How to” Presentations on Publishing, Stock Tips to be Held
Friday, October 28, 2005
Findlay, Ohio – Two business professors at The University of Findlay
will address book publishing and Internet stock tips Wednesday, Nov. 9
at 3 p.m. in Winebrenner Theological Seminary, TLB Convocation Center.
Dr. Quentin R. Skrabec, Jr., assistant professor of business, will
present “A Look at Publishing Books for Academia.” His presentation
will cover the necessary steps for publishing a successful book and
gaining from the experience. Skrabec has published four books on
business and management, two books on industrial history and one on
literature and religion. In March 2006, his biography on Mike
Owens and the glass industry will be published, along with a textbook
on operations management in June 2006.
Dr. Joon-Young Song, assistant professor of finance, will present his
paper, “A Computational Algorithm for the Joint Behavior of Stock
Prices and Volume: The Case of Internet-Posted Recommendations.”
According to Song, Internet-posted stock recommendations from websites
such as Yahoo! Finance appear to initiate significant abnormal returns
for at least five weeks after the announcement. Song developed a
conceptual algorithm, called Selling Pressure, to fully exploit market
information by combining both past price changes and volume.
“Empirical test results show that stocks selected by the model appear
to perform on average capital gain of 4.28 percent to 9.28 percent for
five weeks,” Song explained.
