Findlay, Ohio – A collection of pieces created by local artist Judith
Greavu will be on display through Dec. 10 in The University of
Findlay’s Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery. A reception will be held
in honor of the opening of Greavu’s exhibition Sunday, Nov. 6, 2-4 p.m.
in the gallery.
The collection, “Powerful Distractions,” offers a wide range of media
and expression, including bronze sculptures that explore the impact of
humans on the oceans, and sculptural ceramic bottles with references to
China. According to Greavu the main works in the exhibit tell stories.
The newest large works, “Warped Vision – Iraq” and “Warped Vision – New
Orleans,” combine fused glass, cloth and sand bags. The pieces address
contemporary issues such as the war in Iraq and the Hurricane Rita’s
impact on New Orleans.
Greavu is a retired associate professor of art at Ohio Northern
University. She holds a bachelor of science degree in art education
from Ball State University and a master of fine arts degree in painting
from Bowling Green State University.
Greavu’s artwork has been exhibited locally and nationally since 1985.
The Lea Gallery, located in UF’s Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
