Audition for “Bells Are Ringing” to be Held

Findlay, Ohio – An open audition for the musical play “Bells Are
Ringing” will be held Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6 beginning at 7
p.m. in The University of Findlay’s John and Hester Powell Grimm
Theatre.
Callbacks also will begin Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the theatre.
Auditions will consist of 16 bars of a song from a musical
production. The total length of the audition should not be longer than
one minute.
Auditions are being held for 29 roles, including 12 principal roles,
and a cast for a chorus with substantial singing and dancing.
“Bells Are Ringing,” with music by Jule Styne and books and lyrics by
Betty Comden and Adolph Green, opened on Broadway Nov. 29, 1956, and
ran for 924 performances. In 1960, the play was made into a Hollywood
film starring Judy Holliday, Dean Martin and Jean Stapleton. Set in New
York City in the late-1950s, “Bells Are Ringing” tells the story of
Ella Peterson, a charming and heart-warming switchboard operator, who
gets tangled up with her clients’ private lives.
The play will be held Feb. 22-26 at the Grimm Theatre.
The script for “Bells Are Ringing” is on reserve at the University’s Shafer Library.
