UF to Show Hindi Film
Tuesday, November 29, 2005
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay will host a movie night as
part of a series titled “India On Campus” on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
in Pfieffer Lecture Hall in the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.
“Mrityudand,” which is Hindi for “Death Sentence,” tells the story of
three women in a Bihari village who revolt collectively against the
stifling male domination and abuse that defines their lives. Some
of the issues addressed in the movie are patriarchy, caste politics,
political skullduggery and how religion is used as a tool of oppression.
A discussion on social and cultural differences in the U.S. and India will take place after the showing of the film.
