Thursday, December 08, 2005
Findlay, Ohio – A reading of playwright and Rising Sun, Ohio, native
Matty Sayre’s new play, “Paul Lynde: Center Square,” will be presented
Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre
at The University of Findlay. The reading will also take place Sunday,
Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Rising Sun Opera House in Rising Sun, Ohio.
“Paul Lynde: Center Square” is based on Lynde’s career as the popular
center square from the original “Hollywood Squares” and the character
of Uncle Arthur on “Bewitched.” Lynde was a native of Mount Vernon,
Ohio. The play is a drama focused on the later years of Lynde’s life,
as the actor and comedian tries to understand how he could be so
popular but not achieve his dream of being a movie star.
Sayre is a professional stage manager based in the East Coast, and he has
worked in musicals, plays and opera. This is his first full-length play.
Scott Hayes, director of the UF theatre program, will direct the
reading. Senior theatre major Matthew Harris will star as Paul Lynde,
and Steven Beck, UF associate professor of communication, will act as
the game show host.
Both performances are free and open to the public with no reserved seating.
