Students to Build a House of Food
Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Findlay, Ohio – Students from The University of Findlay will use 2,400
cans of food to “canstruct” a house Feb. 27-28 in the Alumni Memorial
Union. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and educate
students and community members about poverty. A ribbon-cutting ceremony
for the house of food will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in
the Alumni Memorial Union.
The canned goods were donated by Fresh Encounters and Great Scot
Supermarket, and the event is organized by students in the University’s
Habitat for Humanity and Public Relations Student Society of America
chapters.
Curt Harris of Fresh Encounters said the company is involved with the
event because of the Fresh Encounters slogan, “Your Community Market.”
“The company goal is to actually live that slogan and make it a motto,”
said Harris.
During the event, student volunteers will also be around campus with
signs educating the public about poverty and the need for adequate
housing.
After the ribbon cutting, the house will be disassembled and the canned
goods will be donated to a distribution organization, CHOPIN Hall
(Christians Helping Other People In Need).
