Box City to Take Over Front Lawn of Old Main
Thursday, March 30, 2006
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay Habitat for Humanity chapter
will sponsor the annual “Box City” event from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday, April 8.
In efforts to raise student awareness of poverty, the University’s
chapter of Habitat for Humanity sponsors a week of activities called
Act! Speak! Build! Week. The Box City event will cap off the
week’s activities.
For 12 hours, students will construct houses out of anything made of
cardboard on the front lawn of Old Main, transforming it from a stately
landscape to a shantytown. “You can expect students to make anything.
In the past students have built a teepee, igloo and castle,” said
Whitney Jackson, member of Habitat for Humanity.
The students will spend the night in their cardboard houses, regardless
of weather conditions, to experience what it might be like to live in
poverty.
Throughout the event, there will be a battle of the bands, with 10 local bands performing.
