FINDLAY, Ohio – The Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and The University of
Findlay today initiated a student cooperative education and employment
program through which University chemistry majors can qualify for
valuable learning experiences at one of the nation’s leading
manufacturing firms.
Junior and senior chemistry majors with satisfactory academic records
who are willing to commit to at least two semesters of work during
their academic careers will be eligible to apply for the co-op program
at Cooper Tire.
“Students selected for these co-op positions will be exposed to
real-world situations and environments and will function as important
team members at Cooper Tire,” said Mary Jo Geise, dean of the College
of Sciences at The University of Findlay. “They will also become
familiar with more of the many different types of equipment in use
today.
“This means that when our students graduate they will have acquired
important skills and knowledge that will give them a real competitive
advantage as they begin their careers. Plus they will be able to say
they have obtained invaluable experience with one of the finest
corporations anywhere.”
For its part, Cooper Tire is proud of the substantive experience it
affords students and to be a partner in the students’ education.
“We have a dynamic work environment where departments and functional
areas work together on projects,” noted Tony Miller, vice president
human resources for the North American Tire Division. “Students
will be involved in broad cross-functional projects and programs.”
He said that students will perform in entry-level college graduate
positions that include the evaluation of raw materials, rubber
compounds, and reinforcing composites, and analyze data to solve
complex material problems. They will work with the latest
laboratory instrumentation and analytical test methods while on-site at
production or development facilities and laboratories.
