UF Mathematics Day Features Probability and Statistical Research

Findlay, Ohio — The University of Findlay will offer two presentations
by Dr. Emily Murphree, associate professor of mathematics and
statistics at Miami University, as part of UF’s annual Mathematics Day,
Thursday, March 23, in the Alumni Memorial Union Multipurpose Room.
Beginning at 10 a.m., Murphree will present “An Optimal Stopping Rule,”
will focus on how probability can be used to devise strategies for
receiving and accepting offers.
At 1 p.m. Murphree will present “How Many Animals Are Out There?” Her
discussion will cover the various research methods used to track
animals and how to estimate the size of an animal population.
Murphree has taught in the College of Art and Science at Miami
University since 1982. She has received the College of Arts and Science
Distinguished Educator award and has served as the author and co-author
of many published works. Murphree also works as a zoology data analyst.
