Mazza Museum to Host Golden Books Illustrator

Findlay, Ohio –  The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will host Golden Books illustrator Ruth Sanderson at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in the museum. Her talk is part of the museum’s John and Patty Luther Mazza Guest Artist Series.

Ruth Sanderson Sanderson has illustrated books for Golden Books for children of all ages, with some of her better well-known pieces appearing in “Heidi” and “The Secret Garden.”  She has also done the artwork for the paperback covers to the Nancy Drew series and the Black Stallion series.

In addition, she has retold and illustrated many fairytales, including “The Twelve Dancing Princesses,” “Papa Gatto,” “The Crystal Mountain” and “The Golden Mare.” Her original fairytale, “The Enchanted Wood,” received the Irma S. Black award for best picture book of 1992 and the Young Hoosier Award in 1995.

Sanderson’s paintings have been included in exhibitions around the country, including The Norman Rockwell Museum, The Society of Illustrators, The Original Art, the Delaware Museum of Art, the Art Museum of Western Virginia, the Words and Pictures Museum, and numerous fantasy and science fiction conventions. Her work has appeared on collector’s plates, greeting cards, fantasy book covers, and in magazine and advertising venues.

Sanderson is a 1974 graduate from Paier College of Art in Hamden, Conn.
