UF Purchases former Owens Findlay Campus

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay has purchased the former Owens Community College Findlay-area campus on Davis Street for $4,133,320.

The purchase includes the 60,000-square-foot academic center at 300 Davis St., houses at 328 and 332 Davis St. and 1214 and 1300 Cory St., the facility services building at 208 W. Foulke Ave.; the lot west of 208 W. Foulke and the adjacent two vacant lots on Trenton Avenue; all furnishings in the 300 Davis St. building, and about seven acres of land on which the facilities are located, including about 2 ½ acres of parking.

The closing date and transfer of titles will be May 8. Following that date, the University will start renovation of the main building for partial occupancy next fall.

A short transfer ceremony was held on April 11 in front of the main academic building of the former Owens Findlay-area campus.

Dr. Ronald McMaster of Perrysburg, chairman of the Owen s Community College trustees, said, “We are delighted that Owens Community College is able to provide this property to The University of Findlay. It has served Owens and thousands of Findlay area students well. Owens has a lovely new campus and will continue to serve Findlay and the surrounding area with special effectiveness.”

Dr. Christa Adams, president of Owens Community College, said, “We are pleased that The University of Findlay has this educational facility. It is a natural in terms of location and the fact that it continues to provide higher educational opportunities in the Findlay area. We appreciate and will continue the cooperative and cordial relations between our two institutions.”

Dr. C. Richard Beckett, chairman of The University of Findlay Board of Trustees, said, “The Findlay trustees have been strongly interested in the Owens facility as a natural addition to the Findlay campus. We are delighted that this transaction is taking place. We thank the Owens trustees for their role in helping to ensure a continuing strong higher education program in Findlay.”

Dr. DeBow Freed, president of The University of Findlay, said, “This property will provide much-needed space for UF’s growing academic programs. Its location is superb, and it will round out the campus. The purchase will help the University make its planned strong thrust into the future. We will continue to work cooperatively with Owens to ensure excellent higher educational opportunities in Findlay and the surrounding area.”
