Louden-Hanes Named Dean of Undergraduate Education
Thursday, July 20, 2006
Marie Louden-Hanes, Ph.D., has been appointed the new Dean of
Undergraduate Education at The University of Findlay. As of July 1,
Louden-Hanes is responsible for promoting the quality and well being of
all undergraduate programs and overseeing general education and other
campus-wide activities in the honors program, First-Year Experience program and service learning, as well as other duties.
“Dr. Louden-Hanes has served UF in multiple roles for nearly 20 years
and will champion undergraduate education as only an insider can.
Defining the ‘core UF experience’ is an essential part of defining the
institutional culture,” said Dr. Daniel May, vice president for
academic affairs at the University.
Louden-Hanes assumes this role after completing service as the interim dean of
the College of Liberal Arts. She began her career at UF in
1986 as an adjunct faculty member. In 1992, she became a full faculty
member and later received her full professor status with tenure. Prior
to teaching at the college level, Louden-Hanes taught in the public
school system.
During her career at the University, Louden-Hanes has received several
honors, including the Founder’s Day Academic Excellence Award in 2000.
She was also selected as an exchange scholar in the Kake Bridge
Program, traveling to Japan in the summer of 1997.
Louden-Hanes received her doctorate in American cultural studies from
Bowling Green State University (BGSU). She holds a master’s degree in
art history and a bachelor’s degree in art education from BGSU, as well
as an associate’s degree from Sullins College in Bristol, Va.
“Excellence in undergraduate education is what the appointment is all
about – working with faculty, staff and students toward continued
excellence in undergraduate education. It promises to be an
engaging venture, and I look forward to it,” said Louden-Hanes.
