UF's Pharmacy Program Receives Pre-Candidate Status
Thursday, July 20, 2006

The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has approved The University of Findlay’s pharmacy program for pre-candidate status, the first step in a three-step process.

This approval means that students who are entering their third year of the program at UF can begin their first year of professional pharmacy courses, continuing their studies in the six-year program toward a doctor of pharmacy degree.

The University has 60 students prepared to begin their third year in the pharmacy program in the fall. The University also has 60 students enrolled in each of the first and second years, which mostly cover basic science and general education courses. Students will take advanced courses on campus during their third, fourth and fifth years in the program. The sixth year consists mostly of clinical rotations at hospitals and other pharmacy settings.

Dr. Donald Stansloski, dean of the School of Pharmacy, said, “We are especially pleased that ACPE has endorsed our program after a rigorous review of all of its features. We expect to have an especially strong program, with an excellent pharmacy practice component. Seven full-time pharmacy faculty and staff members will be teaching and advising students in the fall. Other faculty will be added during the year as more of the program develops. The faculty and staff are devoted to building a first-rate program at Findlay. We are pleased that pharmacy education will be a prominent part of The University of Findlay and the city of Findlay. We believe it will add greatly to the professional and intellectual life of the campus and community.”

ACPE will revisit the program again in one year to review the second step of the accreditation process.
