UF to Host Traditional Arch Ceremony
Thursday, August 24, 2006
The University of Findlay’s annual Arch Ceremony, welcoming the Class
of 2010, will take place Sunday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m. beginning in the
Koehler Complex.
Following the welcome address by President DeBow Freed, as part of the
UF tradition, students are ushered in through the Griffith Memorial
Arch where they are greeted by faculty in full academic regalia.
Since its founding in 1923, in memory of Caddie A. Griffith, students
avoid walking through the arch again until their graduation in
recognition of the superstition that students passing through the arch
prior to their degree completion will not graduate.
After commencement, the graduating seniors march out through the arch,
signifying their successful degree completion at UF and entry into the
world beyond.
The Oiler Brass Marching Band will provide processional music during
the ceremony. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held
for new students, orientation leaders, faculty and staff in the Alumni
Memorial Union. President and Mrs. Freed, Dr. Dan May, vice president
of academic affairs and the college deans will host the reception.
