UF Theatre Program to Host High School Workshop
Wednesday, September 27, 2006
The University of Findlay theatre program will host its 31st annual
high school workshop, designed to introduce high school students and
teachers to the UF theatre program, on Saturday, Nov. 11.
“We offer a host of opportunities that a lot of colleges don’t have –
such as activities for high school theatre students,” said Scott Hayes,
UF theatre program director.
The workshop will include classes in creating a character for the
professional theatre; acting techniques for film and television; and
exposure to advanced technical skills such as incorporating film and
video projections into a set design and costuming techniques.
“All of the workshops involve participation. We want the people
who come to get first-hand exposure of what they could do at The
University of Findlay,” explained Hayes.
Lunch and dinner will be available for purchase at the University’s
Henderson Dining Hall, and the one-day workshop will conclude with a
performance of “1984” at 8 p.m. “1984” is UF’s second show of the
2006-07 season. During lunch and supper, high school faculty will
be invited to join UF theatre faculty to discuss and troubleshoot the
various demands of high school theatre production and curricula.
“In the last five years we have hosted more than 500 theatre students
and teachers from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. This year, we hope
to have the largest workshop yet,” Hayes added.
The cost of the workshop is $3 per person, which includes participation
in three workshops and admission to “1984.” Any interested
student or teacher may get information about the workshop by calling
Peggy Gartner, UF fine arts administrative assistant, at 419-434-4531,
or by email: gartner@findlay.edu. The workshops will be filled on
a first-come, first-served basis, and the deadline for registration is
Oct. 26.
All persons interested in further information about the theatre program
may contact Scott Hayes, theatre program director at 419-434-4562 or at
