The University of Findlay balanced its budget for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, with a surplus of more than $1 million.

Construction recently completed and in progress amounts to $8.2 million. Projects include expanding the Mazza Museum in the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion for $2.2 million; renovation of the former Owens Community College property for $2.1 million; constructing and equipping five life science laboratories in the former Owens property for $2.3 million; and construction of an additional arena at the Western equestrian farm for $500,000.

Five new deans and 19 new faculty members have been appointed. The incoming class included 853 new undergraduate students.

Emphasis for the year will be on further strengthening of the academic program, improving facilities and service for students and faculty, and continuing to improve the financial underpinning of the University.

The University board of trustees reviewed the above information at its meeting Oct. 5-6. Thirty-one regular trustees and four special trustees attended the two-day meeting.

“We had a good meeting,” said board chairman C. Richard Beckett. “Trustees are pleased with the exceptional progress of the University. We are expanding teaching capabilities and academic facilities substantially, systematically strengthening programs of the University, improving finances and making the already-beautiful campus more attractive.”
