Sodexho Attempts to Set World Record with Findlay’s Help
Monday, October 16, 2006
Sodexho, The University of Findlay’s on-campus food service provider
and the leading food and facilities management services company in
North America, is participating in the national Cans Across America
event and will be attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the
most canned goods collected in a 24-hour period.
To help Sodexho meet its goal, UF’s Sodexho dining
services and Habitat for Humanity are sponsoring a can drive on campus.
From now until Wednesday, Oct. 18, cans may be taken to Henderson
Dining Hall. Canned goods will be accepted until 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18.
Community members are encouraged to make donations, as well as UF
faculty, staff and students.
From 5–7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, the
community and UF students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit
Henderson Dining Hall on the UF campus to see the towers of canned
goods collected. Beginning at 5 p.m., Sodexho staff will follow strict
guidelines set forth by the Guinness World Records organization to
count and record the total number and weight of food collected. After
all food has been accounted for, it will be distributed to local food
pantries.
The current record is 156,889.34 pounds of canned
food collected. UF’s goal is to donate 1,000 cans of food to Sodexho’s
national effort.
