OESHO and The University of Findlay Remember Bill Jutte
Monday, October 16, 2006
| OESHO president Jared Kirk presented Bill Carter,
associate professor and director of graduate,
undergraduate and degree completion in
environmental, safety and
occupational health,
with a $1,000 donation to the Bill Jutte Memorial
Scholarship.
| The Oiler Environmental, Safety and Health Organization (OESHO)
presented a $1,000 donation to the Bill Jutte Memorial Scholarship
during the 20th anniversary celebration of UF’s School of Environmental
and Emergency Management on Oct. 7.
Senior Jared Kirk, OESHO club president, presented
the check with a moving tribute to Jutte, for whom the scholarship is
named. In the audience were Jutte’s parents Mary and Jim Jutte of Saint
Henry, Ohio, who were there to experience the emotional presentation
and the recognition of their son.
Jutte received his bachelor’s degree from UF in 2002
with an emphasis in industrial hygiene and went to work for Tower
Automotive in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was quickly diagnosed with aggressive
lymphocytic cancer and soon after married his sweetheart, Kristy. Jutte
fought the illness with her support and the support of many family
members and friends, many from Saint Henry. He died in October 2003.
The faculty and staff at UF have many good memories
and miss Jutte’s “pleasant smile, great sense of humor and dedication
to environmental health and safety,” commented Bill Carter, associate
professor of environmental management and director of graduate,
undergraduate and degree completion in environmental, safety and
occupational health.
With contributions from students in the program and
from Jutte’s family and friends, the Bill Jutte Memorial Scholarship
was founded. More than $15,000 has been raised to endow the
scholarship. In addition to the $1,000 from OESHO, UF alumni
contributed $500 to the fund and presented the money at the special
ceremony.
To contribute to the Bill Jutte Memorial
Scholarship, contributions may be
mailed to The University of Findlay,
Office of Development, 1000 N. Main St., Findlay, Ohio, with checks
made payable to The University of Findlay.
