Islam to be Discussed in UF’s Religious Studies Lecture Series

Imam Farooq Saeed Abo-Elzahab will be the final speaker in The University of Findlay’s Religious Studies Lecture Series at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Ritz Auditorium, located in Old Main on the Findlay campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Abo-Elzahab, imam and director of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, will discuss Islam. A graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, Abo-Elzahab holds a bachelor’s degree in Arabic and theology, as well as two additional high-study diplomas in Arabic.

While working as a teacher of Arabic and Islamic studies, Abo-Elzahab also served as imam in various mosques in Egypt through the ministry of Al-Awqaf. In 1989, he was delegated by the Al-Azhar administration to assist the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo as assistant imam. In 1991, Abo-Elzahab began serving at the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as imam and director until 1998 when he returned to the Toledo area to serve in his current position.

Abo-Elzahab is married with four children.

The purpose of the series is to provide an enhanced learning environment for both religious studies students and the larger community.
