UF’s Osborne Earns Professional Choice Award in National Contest
Thursday, January 25, 2007

Aaron Osborne, a media technology specialist on The University of Findlay’s multimedia team, was recently recognized for his creativity and talent by Avid Technology Inc. and earned an all-expenses paid trip to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Osborne, who graduated from UF in 2000, won the Professional Choice Award in a nationwide contest for a 30-second commercial titled “In the Halls of Avid, One is Many,” featuring UF alumnus Ben Walton. “My spot shows how one person can make a vision come to life. The idea behind it is that a character in a hallway — with numerous images surrounding him ... his ideas ... all different — can create any or all of them with Avid,” said Osborne.

Osborne’s work was selected, by professional commercial editor and Association of Independent Creative Editors award winner Chris Franklin of Big Sky Editorial, from more than 100 qualified entries.

“There were so many creative and entertaining commercials to choose from, but Aaron’s use of imagination, skill and intrigue made his spot really stand out over the other entries,” said Franklin. “The pace, the audio and the use of graphics really brought the piece to life.”

The commercial is an HD spot that Osborne created using a Panasonic AG-HVX200 camera, Avid Xpress® Pro software and Adobe After Effects. As part of the Professional’s Choice Award, the spot aired approximately 100 times throughout the Sundance Film Festival on Park City TV (PCTV) – Sundance’s exclusive “All Access” news station. The spot was seen by festival attendees including producers, directors, editors, studio executives and Hollywood talent.

The contest was co-sponsored by Avid and MovieMaker Magazine.
