Occupational Therapy Leader to Speak at UF

The University of Findlay’s occupational therapy program will hold its third annual Evening with a Leader in Occupational Therapy Thursday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 2, in the Alumni Memorial Union. This continuing education program is free to those who attend.
The event will feature keynote speaker Charles Christiansen, Ed.D., OTR, OT(C), FAOTA, founding director of the Center for Allied Health Programs at the University of Minnesota.
Serving as a national and international spokesman, Christiansen will present “Occupational Therapy’s Vision for 2017 and Beyond” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 1 and “Promoting Resilience through Lifestyle Intervention” 9:15-11:15 a.m. Feb. 2.
Christiansen joined the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in 1983. He served as treasurer and after recently completing his term as vice president, he was awarded the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectureship by AOTA. Christiansen was also named George T. Bryan Distinguished Professor of the School of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
As founding editor of the journal OTJR: Occupation, Participation and Health, Christiansen has published numerous articles, and is the co-editor of several textbooks in the field. He is an active member of the Society for the Study of Occupation and is interested in health promotion and the contribution of occupations to health, well-being and quality of life.
