UF to Host “Three Seasons” Movie and Speaker
Monday, January 29, 2007

The University of Findlay will host the movie “Three Seasons” and speaker Tran Le Hoa Tranh, Ph.D., from 6:30 – 9 p.m., Jan. 31, in the Martin Lecture Hall as part of the Vietnam on Campus Film and Discussion series.

“Three Seasons” is an international movie that portrays the interwoven stories of five characters set in Vietnam. Each character deals with adversity in his or her personal life and struggles towards the outcome. The tale is that of intersecting stories that coincidentally cross paths and are sometimes furthered by each other. The film is a reflection of its director, Tony Bui, and his personal journey as he attempted to explore his own cross-cultural identity.

Tran, a native of Vietnam, will share her country’s image of beauty and growth with UF. Tran is a scholar-in-residence from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), an affiliated member of the Vietnam National University. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English and literature, a master’s degree in Vietnamese literature and her doctoral degree in the theory of history and literature.

Tran was born in one of the poorest regions of Vietnam and moved with her family to Saigon shortly before Vietnam gained independence. Her visit is funded through a grant from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) and the ASIA Network, a consortium of nearly 150 North American colleges working to strengthen the role of Asian studies within the framework of a liberal arts education. The University of Findlay was selected in 2006 to participate in the Liberal Arts College Faculty Exchange Program.
